A ‘global nomad’, of mixed Arab-British parentage, I was born in the US, grew up all over the world and now reside in rural England. Those international influences are seen in my recipes and enrich my cooking as they have enriched my life.
I learned to cook from my father, who still creates wonderful feasts for family and friends at the drop of a hat. At one time, my parents owned a Mediterranean deli, where I worked during my university years. That experience taught me a lot about adapting traditional Middle Eastern foods to tempt the Western palate. I also found that serendipity often takes a hand in creating fabulous hybrid dishes, such as the time another employee accidentally spilled cherry pie filling all over the kanafeh. A new favourite was born!
I have a column in Vale Life Magazine and write ‘A Bite of Britain’ for Honest Cooking. I’m also working on a cookbook and developing an ‘app’ – stay tuned! If you’d like to get in touch, please drop me a line at rubymoukli (at) gmail (dot) com.

Hi Ruby,
My name is Kent, and I run simplerecipes.net. We’d love to feature your blog and recipes as part of our “Featured Foodies” campaign. This will include a permanant link, logo, and write-up on our Featured Foodies page, and we’ll occasionaly add our favorite recipes of yours to our site to share with our visitors. Each recipe page will of course give you credit with another link back to you. Your “Quick Chicken Chili” would be great for our site. Please let me know if you’re interested and we’ll feature you today!
Thanks,

Good to know you a little better. Many changes on the blog since the last time I was here. I hope to visit more often.
Ruby,
Spotted your bit on Brandy Butter over at “A Bite of Brit,” and then your bio at the bottom of the page. In it, you say, “Curious about her British mother’s seemingly bizarre love of cheese and onion sandwiches, Ruby moved to England and discovered an island full of people eating them.”
I looked on that site. I’ve searched on this. I can’t find any further reference, like… oh, perhaps A RECIPE for said cheese-onion sandwiches? Instructions, please?
Ha! The ‘cheese and onion sandwiches’ weren’t meant to be taken quite so literally. They were more of a culinary metaphor for the cultural quirks of my mom’s that have since been, at least partially, explained by my experience living here. Having said that, they are in fact included in a ‘sandwiches’ post for Honest Cooking that is currently in the works. Thanks for giving my site such a thorough read and for taking the time to comment.
I was thrilled to receive your website address from Isam in his Christmas card. Ivor and I have always been interested in how you are all doing.
I love your site and will certainly be trying some of your recipes.
The one and only time we have celebrated Thanksgiving was with your family in your home in Abu Dhabi. We have very fond memories of that time and I still remember the delicious homemade pumpkin pie which I haven’t had since.I don’t think the Brits could get any where close.
Good Luck with all your enterprises and I hope you and all your family have a healthy and happy 2012
So lovely to hear from you! Will be emailing you very soon. Merry Xmas and Happy New Year!
Love your site. Nicely laid out and easy to navigate. Chapeau! Hope to meet you in person some day soon…
Thanks Randy, and same here!
